From the writer of the beloved worship songs Alabaster Jar &, The More I Seek You, comes the book at the heart of this message, How to Worship a King, by Pastor Zach Neese. Zach Neese is the Pastor of Worship Development at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, and oversees worship development, discipleship, training and equipping classes. Written in an effort to help define and understand true worship for every believer, this book captures the intimate relationship between a worshipper and God, and reveals truth and teachings of worship communicated in the pages of the Bible. In How to Worship a King, Zach unveils the power and beauty of true worship beyond any known song or melody, and carefully builds understanding and compelling evidence into the intended purpose of worship as a powerful weapon designed by God for the advancement and building of His Kingdom, here on earth.
Embark on this amazing journey of understanding, and be changed by the revelation gained as you allow your mind to see what only your heart has had the capacity to understand: that the power of worship has been deliberately given to change your relationship with God and to effect the way you live your life as a true worshipper and high priest.
"How To Worship A King" will release in February of 2012
If you’ve spent any time praying in your life, you’ve probably ended your prayers with the phrase, “In Jesus’ name.” Most of us say this out of habit without really thinking about what that means or why we close our prayers that way. The most common reason we end prayers in Jesus’ name is because He told us to pray in His authority (John 14:12–14). But ending prayers with the name of Jesus is also appropriate for another reason—since He is our ultimate example of what real prayer looks like, it’s only fitting that a prayer that stems from His example should end in His name.
Over the next 28 days, we’re going on a journey together into prayer. We’ll explore its many dynamics: what the Bible says about it, why we so desperately need it, how we can use it, how it brings us closer to the Father and many other principles. Each day begins with a passage of scripture, followed by an inspiring devotional thought and ends with practical tips and a prayer to help you activate the devotional’s subject in your own prayer life.
As you go through this devotional, our prayer is that you’ll grow to understand that prayer is one of the most crucial elements to walking in an intimate relationship with our heavenly Father. We have a great adventure ahead of us, and we pray you’ll become closer to God than you ever thought possible as you discover how to live a powerful life of prayer.
—In Jesus’ name, Amen.

After He was filled with the Holy Spirit at the Jordan River, Jesus spent 40 days in the desert being tempted by Satan. Then, He started to teach throughout all of Galilee and news about Him began to spread. The book of Luke tells us that when Jesus finally returned to His hometown of Nazareth, He went to the local synagogue; and in front of all of His family, friends and neighbors, He began to read these words from the prophet Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18–19).
He then shut the book and sat down. As everyone in the synagogue watched Him, Jesus announced, “While you heard those words just now, they were coming true!” Luke later makes it clear that Jesus passed this same ministry on to His disciples (Luke 9:1–2) and ultimately to the entire Church (Acts 1:1–2, 8).
As followers of Christ, our mission is the same as His—to see people saved, healed, set free, discipled, equipped and empowered to serve God and His kingdom. Jesus has called us to take the message of His good news to our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, strangers, enemies … everyone. What you read over the 21 days of this devotional are the stories of ordinary people. They lived in the real world and faced the same kinds of issues and obstacles that each of us face. But each of them heard God, believed Him and obeyed His call to step out in faith and go.
Will you do the same? Will you step out in faith and go? Let’s say “yes” to God’s call.
